The news and many online sources are stating that the chaos in Baton Rouge is all rumors. I want to tell people to be safe and cautions. As some of the things you hear are rumors, some are true. From first hand sources we know Academy Sports was robbed and guns were stolen, government street has had looting and small riots. A friend works in the hospital in Lake Charles, and race riots have broken out about certain people recieving preferential care. As most of us do not want to and will not hide, we all need to be careful. The media has a way of sugarcoating what we see and everyone needs to look out for their neighbors, family and friends. When things happen report them to a place like this so people know the truth. DO NOT POST HEARSAY, Only the truth.

[B] These are not rumors going around. I am too scared to even get back on campus because my sister and freinds got mugged at gunpoint not far from campus. And nobody is doing anything about it. Why does new orleans get national guard and we don't? I am a college girl who commutes, how am i to feel safe driving to school and being able to get gas to go to school? Why doesn't politics and media understand that or take baton rouge and surrounding cities safety and life into their thought and plans?

Baton Rouge does need help. A friend told me that they are sending national guard here too...thank God! I am scared to walk outside my apartment or to my car at work. This is silly! We shouldn't have to go through this. If this is not fixed soon, I am moving.

I am in graduate school at UL-Lafayette (LSU Law graduate) and we have been hearing the same rumors here in Lafayette, Wal-Marts being held up, people being held up at gunpoint, cars being stolen, gun shops being broken into, chaos at the Cajundome. Even though the police are denying it, I tend to think a lot of it is true. I was in BR during the Derrick Todd Lee at large days, so I know what it means to stay vigilant. I tell my friends here all to be careful, and no one walks alone at night on campus. May be overkill, but it can't help. Wal-Mart is chaos of a different sort, though.
Stay strong everyone, Baton Rouge was my second home, just keep doing what we're doing here, open your arms to your New Orleans brethren.

Because New Orleans is a complete warzone! Use some common sense for a second here, even though there have been some problems in Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge does not have buildings up in flames, people dying every minute or a complete lawlessness going on. Yes, Baton Rouge security needs to be upped, but that doesn't mean we have to knock on the national guard for taking care of something much worse. I am not saying that Baton Rouge is safe right now, I too am watching my back.
Also instead of sending in the army I think that something needs to be done with the idle people who are here. Some of these people are getting into trouble because they have nothing to do, and if they could figure out a plan to get some of these people busy with some kind of work that is constructive toward hurricane relief efforts I think it would help for both crime due to idleness and general morale for the refugees.
Just my 2 cents.

I have lived in Baker for 5 years now, ever since I moved down here to attend LSU.
The place is so packed with people it is scary. So many more people everywhere, loitering and horse playing. My wife and I went to Wal-Mart last night around 7PM. The place was full like it was the weekend before Christmas. Shelves were picked clean. The few gas stations I passed had lines going way down the street.
I am smart enough to know that some of the rumors are false. However it has gotten scary in town real quick.
